say goodbye to model two cause they discontinued you.

after months of looking, i finally found a clean marantz receiver from the 70s. it had a few burned out bulbs, which was a lot more challenging to replace than i thought it would be. if any of you have seen the inside of a receiver like this, you know what i mean. looks good now, though.

we'll see if i replace the power caps on my own, or i send it in. soldering inside the receiver and on the circuit boards scares me a little bit.

time keeps dragging on.

football spring "game." this is where my hopes for a nice picture go when i walk in this stadium... the worst place to shoot in the big 12. congrats, cornhuskers, on being the best at something.

you shouldn't mess with me, i'll ruin everything you are.

my cousin mike's family has a foreign exchange student staying with them. jacob is from hong kong. good kid. kinda quiet. he asked for "privacy please," while he was trying to fit a mouth guard for rugby. but mike's wife patty told him that's what happens when you live with a photographer. "deal with it."

i'm ready to play.

you and me both, buddy...

i thought there was virtue in always being cool.

been a lot busy around here... held our annual photo convention at creighton. saw some great work and cool people. one of the highlights for me was cutting out of the contest judging and getting a couple beers with an old friend, travis. and a new friend, gerd. gerd, a native of germany, was even impressed that my bar had "real" boots.

**technically, it's not "my" bar.

trying in vain to breathe the fire we was born in.

it's just the kind of guy he is...
(a roll-your-own guy)

Sunday, March 28, 2010

yes, she's gone like the rainbow that shined yesterday.

i was in minneapolis last week visiting family and friends.
oh, and shooting basketball.
had to stop by matt's bar in south minneapolis for a juicy lucy.
good stuff. add a grain belt and it's a pretty fantastic meal.

that ain't oil, that's blood.

i guess the downside of eating at the movie theater is that some movies don't go very well with food- like when a nazi is lying on the ground with brains and blood leaking out of a bullet hole in his head.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

and she also keeps the cards that read "have mercy on his soul"

a little grab shot at a vietnamese place in the cities...

Thursday, March 18, 2010

please tell us why you had to hide away for so long. so long.

you know what's good? elo.

know what's even better? the sun came out after weeks of clouds. at least it felt like weeks. most of the snow is gone now, too.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

stick this in your pocket, it'll look like you're carrying a friend.

while his american fiancée was out on her bachelorette party, our british friend toby was taken out and taught how to hunt. he will be getting his conceal and carry soon after he gets his immigration papers and his wedding license.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

i went down to the local arena.

this would maybe be ok if dude played hockey...

Monday, March 15, 2010

i'd follow you into the park, through the jungle, through the dark.

i was privileged to spend a number of days in lincoln the last couple weeks. luckily, my friend bronson let me stay at his house. the other bonus was i got to play with his dogs. well, they mostly just like to be rubbed.

squirrel!

***we were getting ready to go for a walk here. they usually aren't leashed together like this. bronson and andrea are kind and attentive dog owners***

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

you know i'm looking for miss linda lee.

obviously a sign you've had a few beers-

ridiculous. of course, she didn't spill much, so i guess that's a sign she hadn't had too many.

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

it's easy to sleep when it wets my brain.

it's great to see the ground again. it's all grey and rainy. irt and rocks and trash are all over, but it's still a welcome sight.

Sunday, March 07, 2010

there's a brand-new dance, but i don't even know its name.

my friend sarah curated her first show at the tugboat gallery in lincoln. it opened this weekend, and i took a few snaps. i don't think sarah was the model used for the painting in the background, but she was willing to mimic it for me.

counting flowers on the wall.

this looked interesting as i drove by... not sure if it really "works," but hey, i needed something to toss up here. the snow is finally melting, and the temps are finally about 32. hopefully, when i get back to omaha, this scene will be gone.

Monday, March 01, 2010

it had two lights on behind.

mmm... margaritas and sushi.

Thursday, February 25, 2010

in the lonely cool before dawn.

started work pretty dang early this morning. while standing in the bitter cold waiting for kids to walk into school, i grabbed a shot of this here tree. it didn't help me stay warm, but i thought the light flare looked kinda cool. cool enough for this format, anyway...

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

you don't know how lucky you are, boy.

the beer store next to my house just got some great russian beer in stock. it takes me back to hopping off the train and buying a few bottles from fat, old, crabby babushkas at stops. except on the russian bottles, there is no "lager" no "porter" and no "ale." the labels just had numbers. i could never remember which numbers were which type of beer.

the road is dark, and it's a thin, thin line.

i'd like to say this post is "by popular demand," but it's basically by "singular demand."

last night or the night before that.

you would think the mermaids wouldn't need to ride the fishes to swim. but i do admit my knowledge of mermaids is very limited.

Sunday, February 21, 2010

going faster than a roller-coaster.

my favorite type of road congestion...

Monday, February 15, 2010

you say my line is out of order all the time.

i doubt you get that nice "dried on the line" smell, but i guess you don't have to worry about venting your dryer this way.

Sunday, February 14, 2010

tell me, where did you sleep last night?

sometimes taking pictures is the easy part. i was in a very rural area and had to take care of my own food for a couple days. the motel didn't have a fridge, and it was way too cold to leave anything outside. luckily, the door let in a lot of outside air. so my coat made a nice little refrigerator.

born a poor young country boy

it snowed again last night. it's cold and windy again. again!
i give up. mother nature, you win.

(anyone else think the beatles didn't exactly knock it out of the park with the title song?)

Sunday, February 07, 2010

i know a thing or two.

this probably would have looked cooler in the evening, but i wasn't about to go back then. still, something you don't see everyday.

anything at all, you got it.

found this note in the book i'm reading.

today kinda felt like back in the intern days (except for having a tv to watch chelsea beat arsenal)... some reading. walking. lots of music. just killing time.

Thursday, February 04, 2010

trust some of this, it'll show you where it's at.

santa fe was not exactly balmy. however, it was sunny, which is something we haven't gotten much of, lately. so i tried to take advantage of it and sit in the sun in the afternoon. and what would vacation be without a drink in the afternoon?

Saturday, January 30, 2010

that pure american brother, dull-eyed and empty-faced.

one of the coolest places i went in santa fe was this bar, evangelo's. it's really out of place in downtown, but in a really good way.

this guy handing out a couple beers is the owner. his father, who was in a couple iconic world war two photos by w. eugene smith, started the bar many years ago.

i also learned that the smith photo was taken on 2 1/4. wow.

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

i tucked up my hair under my hat...

remember you are representing tourists everywhere!

Monday, January 25, 2010

tell me what you got, baby, waiting under there.

went to the georgia o'keefe museum today.
i can see why she is popular. i do like a few of her paintings, but mostly it doesn't speak to me. i prefer the real thing.

my favorite image was the flowers in the gift shop.

cat scratch fever.

those of you who know me well know that i will only state the truth.
yesterday, my sister meghan climbed on this burro.
today, she had to go to urgent care. she wasn't smiling.

she will be ok, but i don't think she will be getting friendly with any animals again.

the unnamed doing the unmentionable.

someone didn't want his picture taken. and that someone didn't want to be named on a lonely road in new mexico.

still, it was public property and this is still a free country.

the land of peace, love, justice and no mercy.

my family is having christmas in santa fe this week. since i am tired of flying and have never seen the oklahoma or texas panhandle, i wanted to drive.

it was well worth it. fantastic and easy driving. lots to look at. i could have spent a couple days poking around these towns that are barely standing. but since we had miles to cover, we just stopped a couple times. springsteen ruled the car during the trip. i was reminded of the song, "thunder road."

i assume this was taken in texas...

i need you more than want you.

just spent a couple nights staying with my good friend travis and this wife teresa in wichita. in addition to just enjoying the sunshine and snow-free ground, teresa hooked me up with an early tour of the new gordon parks exhibit at the ulrich museum (where she works). teresa also made some delicious apple pie.

as we pulled out of town, the couple saw us off after making breakfast.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

i feel a dirty wind blowing.

one of the best aspects of my job is getting glimpses into people's lives. this man was proud that he "lived like a homeless man in a house." i was pretty happy he didn't try to clean anything up for me.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

a quick note...

yeah, blogger kinda sucks. it's a bit ugly. the photos are small.

i hope everyone knows that you can click on the images to look at them a little bigger. so there's that, which is nice.

no walk down the aisle.

i spent most nights up at this beach in california. the day after my coworkers flew in, we all went up.

saw a pretty cool venue for a wedding, as far as weddings go. the bride's mother said this view cost 272 bucks. not bad.

i'm guessing the wedding photographer wasn't as good of a value.
