desolation row

i spent last night in the radisson in randolph, neb. wait, no. it was the cedar motel. and it was one of the most depressing and lonely rooms i have ever spent the night in. then, it got worse...

yeah, it got even more sad. the photo likely does not accurately portray the suck of the room, but you get the idea. tonight, i am in a wonderful little place called the elm motel in o'neill. it is glorious. large, comfy beds. wi-fi. room-controlled heat. just wonderful.

skillet skills

so last saturday had a great dinner with flowers inside and snow falling outside. this saturday, i thought i might make a nice little meal for myself. there was a lack of veggies, dessert and company. but i broke in my new iron skillet with a fantastic steak dinner. i picked up some flowers, and it even started to snow while i was cooking.

paint the world pastel

so after the bowl game, i headed over to the folks' house to celebrate a late christmas and birthday with my family. my sisters had gone through stashes of papers and artwork that my parents had boxed and kept throughout three moves. the house was littered with select "art." i think this was done in seventh-grade. i can't sketch. can't paint, either. so this was likely the high-water mark of my artistic life. a far amount of dead space, but the framing is interesting.
