that pure american brother, dull-eyed and empty-faced.

one of the coolest places i went in santa fe was this bar, evangelo's. it's really out of place in downtown, but in a really good way.

this guy handing out a couple beers is the owner. his father, who was in a couple iconic world war two photos by w. eugene smith, started the bar many years ago.

i also learned that the smith photo was taken on 2 1/4. wow.

tell me what you got, baby, waiting under there.

went to the georgia o'keefe museum today.
i can see why she is popular. i do like a few of her paintings, but mostly it doesn't speak to me. i prefer the real thing.

my favorite image was the flowers in the gift shop.

cat scratch fever.

those of you who know me well know that i will only state the truth.
yesterday, my sister meghan climbed on this burro.
today, she had to go to urgent care. she wasn't smiling.

she will be ok, but i don't think she will be getting friendly with any animals again.

the unnamed doing the unmentionable.

someone didn't want his picture taken. and that someone didn't want to be named on a lonely road in new mexico.

still, it was public property and this is still a free country.

the land of peace, love, justice and no mercy.

my family is having christmas in santa fe this week. since i am tired of flying and have never seen the oklahoma or texas panhandle, i wanted to drive.

it was well worth it. fantastic and easy driving. lots to look at. i could have spent a couple days poking around these towns that are barely standing. but since we had miles to cover, we just stopped a couple times. springsteen ruled the car during the trip. i was reminded of the song, "thunder road."

i assume this was taken in texas...

i need you more than want you.

just spent a couple nights staying with my good friend travis and this wife teresa in wichita. in addition to just enjoying the sunshine and snow-free ground, teresa hooked me up with an early tour of the new gordon parks exhibit at the ulrich museum (where she works). teresa also made some delicious apple pie.

as we pulled out of town, the couple saw us off after making breakfast.

i feel a dirty wind blowing.

one of the best aspects of my job is getting glimpses into people's lives. this man was proud that he "lived like a homeless man in a house." i was pretty happy he didn't try to clean anything up for me.

a quick note...

yeah, blogger kinda sucks. it's a bit ugly. the photos are small.

i hope everyone knows that you can click on the images to look at them a little bigger. so there's that, which is nice.

no walk down the aisle.

i spent most nights up at this beach in california. the day after my coworkers flew in, we all went up.

saw a pretty cool venue for a wedding, as far as weddings go. the bride's mother said this view cost 272 bucks. not bad.

i'm guessing the wedding photographer wasn't as good of a value.
