that pure american brother, dull-eyed and empty-faced.

one of the coolest places i went in santa fe was this bar, evangelo's. it's really out of place in downtown, but in a really good way.

this guy handing out a couple beers is the owner. his father, who was in a couple iconic world war two photos by w. eugene smith, started the bar many years ago.

i also learned that the smith photo was taken on 2 1/4. wow.

i tucked up my hair under my hat...

remember you are representing tourists everywhere!

tell me what you got, baby, waiting under there.

went to the georgia o'keefe museum today.
i can see why she is popular. i do like a few of her paintings, but mostly it doesn't speak to me. i prefer the real thing.

my favorite image was the flowers in the gift shop.

cat scratch fever.

those of you who know me well know that i will only state the truth.
yesterday, my sister meghan climbed on this burro.
today, she had to go to urgent care. she wasn't smiling.

she will be ok, but i don't think she will be getting friendly with any animals again.

the unnamed doing the unmentionable.

someone didn't want his picture taken. and that someone didn't want to be named on a lonely road in new mexico.

still, it was public property and this is still a free country.

the land of peace, love, justice and no mercy.

my family is having christmas in santa fe this week. since i am tired of flying and have never seen the oklahoma or texas panhandle, i wanted to drive.

it was well worth it. fantastic and easy driving. lots to look at. i could have spent a couple days poking around these towns that are barely standing. but since we had miles to cover, we just stopped a couple times. springsteen ruled the car during the trip. i was reminded of the song, "thunder road."

i assume this was taken in texas...

i need you more than want you.

just spent a couple nights staying with my good friend travis and this wife teresa in wichita. in addition to just enjoying the sunshine and snow-free ground, teresa hooked me up with an early tour of the new gordon parks exhibit at the ulrich museum (where she works). teresa also made some delicious apple pie.

as we pulled out of town, the couple saw us off after making breakfast.

i feel a dirty wind blowing.

one of the best aspects of my job is getting glimpses into people's lives. this man was proud that he "lived like a homeless man in a house." i was pretty happy he didn't try to clean anything up for me.

a quick note...

yeah, blogger kinda sucks. it's a bit ugly. the photos are small.

i hope everyone knows that you can click on the images to look at them a little bigger. so there's that, which is nice.

no walk down the aisle.

i spent most nights up at this beach in california. the day after my coworkers flew in, we all went up.

saw a pretty cool venue for a wedding, as far as weddings go. the bride's mother said this view cost 272 bucks. not bad.

i'm guessing the wedding photographer wasn't as good of a value.

don't let that daylight steal your soul

in san diego they sell fish that comes from the ocean.
and you can eat it.

Monday, December 28, 2009

oceans never listen to us anyway.

admittedly, i was a little bummed when my flight left omaha in the snow. i like walking around all bundled up in a white void. i think you can see why i wasn't that upset for long, though...

catlong sighs holding kitty's black tooth

more pictures of ryan and julie's cats... i think one of the few things i like about monkey is taking snaps of her. lights are on, but no one's home.

and here is a rare appearance of penelope. she's portrayed in rare black and white:

do you know where i was at your age?

i went to nyc to watch a vikings game.
the other people at the bar were more interesting than the game.

throw roses in the rain...

went to nyc again this month for work... word was not so good, but i got to see a couple good exhibits, pick up some photos books, eat some wonderful sushi and spend time with ryan and julie. all in all, not shabby.

i'm not sure julie takes a bad picture.

ryan? usually good. heh. can someone link the shirts v. skins pic? ryan is resilient. had three teeth pulled about 30 hours before this snap.

it rained. rain beats snow.

hey little heroes, summer's long but i guess it ain't very sweet around here anymore.

there are huge snowdrifts outside my apartment today. thought it was a good day to put this snap up from warmer days.

apparently, to raise money for a bar, you can pre-open... basically serve booze before you open. you can get a permit for three days or something. also, if you don't have a kitchen, apparently you can just cook right there on the sidewalk. on one of the main streets in brooklyn. i gotta believe nyc would have a permit for that, too.

ain't no food upon the table, and no pork up in the pan.

my sister micki and her husband brad were nice enough to have everyone over for thanksgiving this year. i got to hang out with two of my favorite cousins (but not quite legitimate #1).

marcus likes beer. but not good beer. he's drinking keystone light in a glass. you stay classy. by the way, that is not a dining room table.

daniel found some pajamas he liked and wore them all day long. well, he wore them for a few hours until his mother said, "daniel, it's time to take those off. it's a more awkward now and less funny."

nothing is forgotten or forgiven, when it's your last time around.

can't remember the place, but some not-so-trendy bar in nyc that has been open a while. i do recall that i wanted to take his picture, and julie helped break the ice.

he visited this bar because he used to spend some time there years ago. he moved away, but came back to see the city.

in the window there's a face you know.

some of you (ryan) may remember this cat from a year ago when she tried to steal my money. she's a bit more shy now, but still is a cute cat.
